My Bio
Erik Klaus Headshot Jan 2020

I am an indie comic book artist and creator based in NC. I write and draw the comic book series NINJAS & ROBOTS™ published by Keenspot.

From 2013-2016 I went to the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art in Dover, NJ. After graduating I hit the Comic Con scene to develop my own brand and build awareness. I self-published 2 sketchbooks, an art book, a graphic novel, and 2 comics.

In 2019 my creator-owned project Ninjas & Robots got picked up by Keenspot and issue #1 hit comic shops all around the world in August 2020.

I've had published covers for N&R, TMNT, Junior High Horrors, The D Ward, Monkeys Fighting Robots, and Slap Shot Comics.

Man, it's been a crazy Four Years... It's been awhile since my last post like this... 2015 maybe? I wrote something about the art tools I was using at that time. Yeah, those don't really apply anymore. Things have happened, things have changed, my style has evolved. My creator-owned comic project, Ninjas and Robots, got picked up by a publishing company back in December 2018 and I signed a 4 year contract with them to run this as an ongoing series. I had been doing the comic convention scene for a few years and finally got into ECCC and I was supposed to be going to SDCC for the first time, but then the Pandemic hit. Shows were canceled for 2019 and Ninjas & Robots issue #1 got pushed back from March to August. The scariest part about that was that I? didn't know if it was going to come out at all or get dropped. It feels stupid for saying, right? That seems super small compared to what so many people around the world had to go through, the way we all suffered, and the way we are

Curious about what tools I use to crank out a comic page? Check out my blog:  http://interstateninja.blogspot.com/2015/07/creating-comics-101.html The bottom line is that you can use whatever you've got at hand to get the job done.  There is no right or wrong answer as long as the end product looks good.  But these are some tools I picked up along my journey.  Maybe you'll want to try them out, maybe you have ones that work better for you… but here are mine.  Feel free to tell me what you use! interstateninja.blogspot.com

Morning International Comics Competition is no longer a thing. I've been at comic book school.  I missed the memo.  OK.  But the reason "why", as posted online, kind of struck a chord with me: Knowing many of the judges and many of the people from MORNING personally, it was a tough decision for them but the results that came from the project while improving were not ideal for collecting talents that would be successful in Japan AND work for a unique seinen magazine like MORNING. Sadly, globally manga is generally seen from the perspective of shonen and shojo, and mainly titles like Naruto or Rurouni Kenshin. MORNING is a magazine that publi
